Currently many colleges and universities are unable to send their medical and nursing students to clinical sites or campus for simulation to gain the necessary clinical experiences to support their programs and graduate. They are needed to gain these experiences via virtual means which presents a few problems or questions. The first is how many hours can be supplemented with a single virtual scenario or series of scenarios. The other question is how to support that learning and the answers to these two questions are very much related. To fully support a virtual simulation experience, it should be set up similarly to how a live simulation or live clinical experience would be, including materials and education prior to the encounter, support throughout, and a feedback supported by reflection and debriefing afterwards. This talk will focus mostly on a conversation and example of different ways to support those virtual clinical experiences which also helps answer the question of how much clinical time can be justified using virtual simulation.
