5G networks will play a central role in achieving the mass adoption and transformation of the XR domain. 5G networks have the potential to enable and support a wide range of applications and functions, extending far beyond the provision of mobile communication services between end-users. With worldwide 5G revenues estimated at €225 billion in 2025, 5G technologies and services are a key asset to immersive technologies and its positive impact on the world market. The cybersecurity of 5G networks is therefore essential to protect our economies and societies and to enable the full potential of the important opportunities they will bring for the XR domain. 5G will play a crucial role in the resolution of the ongoing war between State and non-State actors across the world. It is a critical infrastructure that needs to be secured at every level, but international regulators are still searching for answers. XR Safety Initiative, a global organization that actively looks out for opportunities to help build safe immersive environments, shares its risks assessment perspective via this talk. XRSI’s EU Strategic advisor brings his geopolitical and technical expertise to shed light on the critical decisions necessary to be made by world leaders and regulations. Award-winning cybersecurity expert and CEO of XRSI Kavya Pearlman joins Marco Magnano to share XRSI’s perspective related to 5G. This talk is an important piece to truly grasp all the positive and negative impact 5G could have on various economies and domains including XR.
